Jonathan P. Hunter

Wealth Advisor

At Winthrop Wealth, Jon Hunter serves as a strategic partner to individuals and families seeking a more coordinated, proactive approach to managing significant wealth. His role is simple in concept, but critical in execution: to identify financial blind spots, bring clarity to complex decisions, and seek to ensure the aspects of a client’s financial life are working in alignment.

Jon operates through a disciplined, repeatable planning process that seeks to integrate various areas of wealth which include investment strategy, tax considerations, equity compensation, liquidity planning, and long-term legacy goals. His approach is grounded in focusing on what can be controlled, allowing clients to navigate uncertainty with confidence while staying aligned with what matters most to them.

Central to this process is Jon’s “FORM” framework (Family, Occupation, Recreation, and Money). By understanding these priorities at a deeper level, he helps clients make more intentional financial decisions that support both their lifestyle today and their long-term objectives. This often extends into the complexities of family dynamics and how they can thoughtfully transition wealth across generations while fostering alignment, communication, and continuity.

Jon works closely with clients who value having a “personal family CFO” embedded in their lives. His client base primarily includes:

  • Entrepreneurs and business owners navigating pre and post liquidity events
  • Executives and employees managing RSU compensation structures and complex stock option packages
  • Next-generation high earners in the accumulation phase of wealth creation

These clients often face sophisticated financial decisions that require coordination across multiple disciplines. Jon acts as a central point of accountability working alongside CPAs, estate attorneys, and other financial professionals to ensure strategies are cohesive, tax-aware, and aligned with each client’s broader vision and family objectives.

Prior to joining Winthrop Wealth in 2021, Jon spent over 10 years with John Hancock Investment Management, where he held roles including Regional Vice President in Northern California. His experience working with advisors and high-net-worth investors provides him with a unique perspective on portfolio construction, market dynamics, and long-term wealth planning.

Originally from New Jersey, Jon pursued his passion for ski racing in Vermont at Stratton Mountain School before continuing at Middlebury College, where he served as captain of the NCAA Alpine Ski Team.

Today, Jon lives in Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood with his wife Kathryn, and stepdaughter Taylor, who attends Dexter Southfield. Outside of work, he enjoys skiing and golf, and has developed a strong appreciation for wine from his time in Northern California. He is also a loyal fan of the New York Giants, something he hopes his New England clients will forgive. Lastly, Jon and Kathryn are committed supporters of organizations throughout the Boston community, with a dedicated focus on combating childhood hunger through No Kid Hungry.
